Premiere of short film collection “Arts of Survival”

Tartu 2024 Arts of Survival Documentaries short film collection “Arts of Survival” presents eight stories about Southern Estonia.

In the global context, Estonia has many distinctive features – artists of survival in cities and forests, buzzing science from slime mold to the sky, self-made karakats by local fishermen, and dreamlike passage through places and communities. Eight international and Estonian filmmakers capture these features to share their way of seeing Southern Estonian “Arts of Survival”.

Tartu 2024 Arts of Survival Documentaries short film collection “Arts of Survival” presents eight stories about Southern Estonia. Authors are Andrey Paounov (Bulgaria), Andris Gauja (Latvia), Carl Olsson (Sweden/Denmark), Eva Kübar (Estonia), Jaan Tootsen (Estonia), Maria Aua (Estonia), Viesturs Kairišs (Latvia), Ülo Pikkov (Estonia).

Tickets for the screening will be available from October 19, 2023.

The films are in Estonian and English. The films are subtitled in Estonian and English, and the staff are ready to assist visitors with special needs.


Arts of Survival Documentaries are a part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main programme. The project is supported by the Estonian Film Institute and SA Tartu 2024.
