We welcome a renowned Dutch filmmaker Aliona van der Horst from to South-Estonia. She is known for her personal, poetic and cinematic vision, which makes her films profoundly compelling and touching. Her most recent film, Turn your body to the sun (2021) deals with history and memory through the story of a daughter searching for her father’s past and is hailed for its artistic use of archival footage. The film tells the incredible story of a Soviet soldier who was captured by the Nazi’s. After the Second world war he was sent to a brutal Stalin- camp where the love letters of an unknown girl helped him survive. Sixty years later, his daughter traces his path to understand her silent father.
